INSTALLING VOODOO
To install Voodoo, just click on the Install script. The Installer will
copy the ClassAct libraries to your system and optionally install AmiPOP
and Sabot for you. The Installer script is written to work on Installer
version 2.17 or greater. The recommended version of the Installer to use
is V43, Copyright ESCOM AG. This version is available on Aminet with the
file name Installer43_3.lha, or something like it.
If you have used E-Mail programs on your Amiga before, you'll want to
know that Voodoo does not store messages in the UUCP mailbox format
that is common for many E-Mail readers. Instead, each folder is a
directory, and every message is stored in a separate file. If you want
to import your old folders into Voodoo, you can do that by configuring
the folder as the "spool file", and then using the "get new mail"
function. In the registered version, Serious Voodoo, there is also an
Import function that will let you do the same without touching the
spool file configuration.
TO SEND MAIL
Since Voodoo has been designed with flexibility as a goal, it does not
contain built-in POP/SMTP code. Instead, mail receiving and delivery
are performed by external utilities. To receive mail using the POP3
protocol, you can use AmiPOP, included. To send mail using SMTP, you
will need to download another program. I recommend the INetUtils
package, although other programs work as well. INetUtils is available
on Aminet as
IU-14-as225.lha comm/net 387K+AS225r2 SMTP/NNTP utilities
IU-14-amitcp.lha comm/tcp 392K+AmiTCP SMTP/NNTP utilities
In addition to INetUtils documentation, more installation notes can
be found in the Voodoo manual.
